On March 25, ParrotSec announced the availability of Parrot OS 5.0, the latest stable release of the ethical hacking and penetration testing operating system.

“Parrot 5.0 was designed with cloud and customizability in mind, and provides several container options to leverage powerful orchestration tools during complex pentest scenarios,” said the devs. “The system now follows a Long Term Support release model, but provides the latest version of all its tools via extensive backporting, and is never out of date.”

Parrot 5.0 is here after almost a year of Parrot 4.11, with a new LTS (Long time support) model, an experimental Raspberry Pi version and a new architect edition. The new update brings a lot more features for ethical hacking and penetration testing.

Parrot OS Architect Edition is a minimalist ISO image of Parrot OS that only has an installer to let expert users customize their installation. It is supported on both 64-bit and ARM64 platforms.
The LTS version of Parrot promises no major changes and fast security updates for at least 2 years from being released.

Parrot 5.0 comes with lots of new tools, such as Pocsuite3, Ffuf, Dirsearch, and Ivy-optiv. It also comes with Python3-pcodedmp, which is a very powerful VBA-P-code disassembler, Mimipenguin, that allows the user to dump login credentials. Oletools, findmyhash2.0 and Pyinstxtractor have also been added to the new version of the operating system.

The new version of the ethical hacking and penetration testing operating system is available for download right now from the official website, ParrotSec.org as Home Edition, Security Edition, Architect & IoT Edition, 3 cloud editions named Architect Edition, HackTheBox Edition, and Docker Images. There is also a Raspberry Pi Edition that supports the Raspberry Pi 4 with 4GB of RAM or higher.
