Free unlimited storage is extremely rare. Not many companies do, as doing so would cost tens of thousands of pounds. Telegram is a popular private messaging service, that gives you unlimited file sharing. Telegram also has an API that gives developers access to the cloud storage feature. Developers such as TeleDrive used this Telegram API to create a cloud storage service.

It’s quite easy. Head over to TeleDrive and log in with your Telegram account. After doing that, you can upload as many files as you want. There is a limit. Just by the bandwidth. There’s a 1.5GB daily bandwidth, and a 2GB upload and download limit. You can remove these both by paying $10 a year if you wanted to.

Privacy

TeleDrive uses Telegram’s storage, so it’s private by default. It will also be available in the saved messages section in your Telegram app. By default, all files that you upload are private, but you can generate a URL that people can use to download the file. You can use Telegram and share the file with them if you know their username.

LifeHacker.com has tested the service, saying that it holds up. You can preview the videos and audio files in the browser. This service does depend on Telegram’s APIs, so if Telegram decides to limit or discontinue its cloud storage APIs, the service will be gone. Even though TeleDrive is free to use, they do have their server and development costs for themselves.

They plan on introducing ads on the website, but not on the dashboard. Currently, it’s supported by sponsors, and as long as TeleDrive has enough money to keep on going, you can continue to upload various files to the service for free, or for $10 a year. We do recommend going for the $10 a year plan if you want to use the service with large files.

We don’t recommend the service as a primary backup, as there is a chance it might be discontinued. As a primary backup, we would recommend a paid service such as Google Drive or OneDrive, however, if you would like more info, you can head to the service’s FAQ page.
