Apple brings out updates very often. From security updates to updates for Safari, you can install Apple’s public beta operating systems easily. Here’s how.
Enroll your device in Apple’s Public Beta Program
Before you can start installing the betas, you need to enrol your device in the program. It’s pretty straightforward, and here’s how to do it.
To start, head to the official website by tapping here. Click ‘Sign Up’ and then log in with the Apple ID that you have linked to the Apple device. Once logged in, the website should automatically choose the software for the device you are using. If it does not, you will have to do it yourself. Underneath ‘Get Started’, click the link to enrol your device into the program.
Apple will recommend you backup your device before proceeding. This is important advice. Betas are unstable and are unfinished software. Such software may corrupt your Mac data, only if something goes wrong. Do not back up the data in iCloud while using the beta. This will only make it so that the data is accessible if you are running iOS / iPadOS 15.4, or macOS 12.3.
Apple recommends you to use Time Machine to create a backup for your Mac itself, and they also recommend you archive your iPhone or iPad using your Mac. You don’t have to back up the data, back it is advised. Instruction will be different depending on the device you are using. Apple has a pretty good walkthrough of what you have to do.
How to install the macOS 12.3 beta
Click Download the macOS Public Beta Access Utility. You can download it to wherever, just make sure you know where that is. Open Finder and head to the location where the downloaded .dmg file is. Open it, and double click the PKG file that will show. Follow the on-screen instructions to get set up. Once done, you can open System Preferences, head to Software Updates, and from there you will be able to see the latest beta version of macOS.
How to install the iOS and iPad OS 15.4 betas
Be sure that you are on Apple’s Beta page on your iPhone or iPad. Tap ‘Download Profile’. Your device will let you know when it has been downloaded. Head into Settings, then General, and then Profiles. Tap the profile and follow the on-screen instructions to install the profile onto the device. Once done, you can open Settings, head to General, and then tap Software Update to install the beta update.
Beta’s are unstable, unfinished OS’s. On Mac, Dropbox and various other cloud services will no longer work due to the update.
