Samsung has recently released the Galaxy S22 family, which has high reviews by many people. However, users have noticed something troubling about the phones.
The phone uses a service named Game Optimizing Service, which throttles performance for its chips. All apps are throttled, except a group of apps. Benchmarks.
Users of a Korean message board noticed extremely different benchmark scores when the application was renamed. Apps like Geekbench get the full power of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or the Exynos 2200. If the app is renamed though, the phone cannot tell that it is a benchmarking app, thus throttling the chip. Testing has shown that the performance has hit 15 to 45% of what it did before. Images are below of what has happened.

Samsung is not alone in doing this. OnePlus phones last year were also found guilty of this. The reason Samsung is doing this is that they want to make sure the battery would last for longer than its competitors. They’re saying you will get a large amount of higher performance, while they’re throttling the chip.
Maybe the average user wants this. However, it doesn’t mean all apps except for benchmarking apps should be throttled. Even system apps are throttled by the service. Sure Samsung may have performance settings in the battery settings, but they do not change the game optimizer. Samsung has released an update for this.
