Sometimes you may be on a regular account trying to install a regular app such as Spotify, yet you would need the password of an admin account. Here’s how to bypass it on DMG files without installing anything on macOS.
How to do it
- Download your DMG file, I will be using the Minecraft Launcher for this example.
- Move it to your Desktop
- Open it
- Right-click on the icon of the app and click on show package contents
- Copy the package contents
- Close the window and create a new folder on the desktop called “app”
- Paste the contents in there
- Eject the volume and delete the dmg file
- Rename the folder to “appname”.app (for Minecraft it would be Minecraft.app)
- Double-click on it and click open.
- That’s it!
This is an incredibly easy act and can be used extremely quickly. However, the dangerous side of this is the fact that if you were to leave your computer unlocked, anyone can simply install malicious software and hide it in a folder without you knowing.
