Chromebooks are simple devices that many use. Here’s how to install Windows on one of these devices. We do recommend that you get a Windows laptop if you want to use Windows.
How to do it
There is a chance you may void your warranty or damage your computer. This method requires heavy tinkering.
Requirments
- A Chromebook you would like to install Windows on.
- A USB flash drive
- A USB keyboard and mouse
Get the Chromebook ready.
- Turn the Chromebook off
- Open the back and remove the Write Protect Screw. You may have to do a bit of research about it.
- Press Esc + Refresh + Power
- Press Ctrl + D and then enter to enable Developer Mode
- Press Ctrl + D to boot up Chrome OS
- Press Ctrl + Alt + T to open up a terminal
- Type in shell and press Enter
- Paste in the following code:
cd ~; curl -L -O https://mrchromebox.tech/uefi-flash.sh && sudo bash uefi-flash.sh
- Press Enter.
- Select Full coreboot firmware from the options
- Type Y to confirm
- Type U to install UEFI firmware
Now we will download Windows onto a USB drive.

Downloading Windows
Go to this link to download it. We will do the steps if you are not on Windows.
Under Windows 10 November 2021 Update, select the edition Windows 10 (multi-edition ISO). Choose a product language and then click Confirm. Click 64-bit Download.
If you are on Windows and would like to download the ISO, follow this guide.
- Right-click on the page and click Inspect.
- Tap CTRL + Shift + M and change the Dimensions to iPhone 12 Pro
- Refresh the page.
Flashing Windows 10 onto a USB flash drive
- Insert your USB flash drive
- If you are on Windows, install Rufus.
- On Rufus, choose your USB drive and ISO file.
- Leave all of the settings the same
- Click Flash
On Mac:
- Insert your USB flash drive
- Install balenaEtcher
- Choose your ISO file
- Choose your USB drive
- Click Flash
Install Windows 10 onto a Chromebook
Insert the Chrome OS Flash Drive into the Chromebook, it may boot directly from the USB drive. If it does not, press Esc when the Chromebook boots. Find your USB device and then select it. Now you can connect your USB keyboard and mouse to the Chromebook, you can now install Windows. When moving onto the partitions, delete all listed, ignore the warnings, and click next.
