Big YouTubers have complained about the fact that there have been many users spamming their YouTube channel comments, such as MKBHD, Linus Tech Tips and more.
MKBHD says ‘YouTube comments spam has been next-level out of control for months’ in the description of a video named ‘YouTube needs to fix this.’
Creators are worried about spam that impersonates them and bribing them to only get nothing from a fake account. Other spam comments are still annoying and harmful. JackSepticeye talks about this and discusses how his channel will have genuine comments and other spam accounts copying the same comments under an inappropriate name.
YouTube does have tools to combat spam comments, and it removes a huge amount automatically by using AI. The company has removed over 950 million comments for spamming and scamming. According to YouTube spokesperson Ivy Choi said in a statement to The Verge, ‘The vast majority of these removals were detected by automated flagging systems.’
MKBHD posted a video about a new experimental moderation feature that will increase the strictness of potentially inappropriate comments that will get held for review. YouTube started testing this feature in December 2021. Marcus Brownlee has tweeted about it here:
Brownlee also mentioned the YouTube Spammer Purge tool, which allows you to filter and search for spammer comments on your channel and other channels to report/delete them all at once.
